2008 Begins!

We are having an exciting 2008 already! I have been invited to participate in "Design After Dark: ish", a fundraiser for The Denver Art Museums' Design Council. It will be a very interesting evening as the artists are combing the power of an ISH word with unique objects from The Department of Architecture, Design & Graphics. I created this dress/mannequin using wire, beads, fabric, and leather, my object is a Roy Lichtenstein lithograph from 1960! It turned out to be a conceptual surreal fashion figure only 12" tall by 12" wide.

Also this month we are hosting a private party with The Wise Women, part of the Women's Vision Foundation. Carolyn Fineran (writer/artist/coach) (www.GypsiesCollection.com) and I will speak about Life After Retail.

This summer has been filled with incredible events. After our successful trunk show in May I attended the 30th retrospective Surface Design Association Conference (http://www.surfacedesign.org/) in Kansas City. Several lectures and symposiums were inspirational. Melissa Leventon's Artwear: Fashion and Anti-Fashion and Sue Hammond West's Art as Quiet (www.suehammondwest.com) were of special interest to me.
A select few of my friends and I were invited to a private opening of the new wing of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (http://www.nelson-atkins.org/) which was enlightening. We visited Asiatica design studio/store (http://www.asiaticakc.com/) where I was most impressed.
As we approach the fall season I am busy creating special dresses for several weddings.

This season Chris has combined a soft merino cotton fiber with her mercerized cottons. They are drapeable, soft and comfy. As the New Year begins we at Brooks Ltd are excited about some of the upcoming events. New trunk shows begin in March, we will launch our spring collection at this time. We are working with several artists to showcase their work throughtout 2007 at the atelier. We are planning a trip to New York and Baltimore to preview new collections. In April we will be hosting a gathering of 'Welcome to Colorado', an organization of women newly located in the area. This will launch our new collection for summer. Kevan Hall, Los Angeles designer was in town as the keynote speaker for Fashion Group International's Career Day(www.fgi.org/denver). Kevan designs glamorous clothing for A-list celebrities like Felicity Huffman and Drew Barrymore. Kevan enjoyed a lovely dinner party at my atelier with the fashion show committee from career day.
